The
first thing a patient likes to know is what a dental lab really
is?
To best describe
a dental lab, think of the relationship between a pharmacy
and your dentist. The process of filling your prescription
is much the same.
Imaging consulting
with your dentist. After an examination, he or she may prescribe
medication suitable for your individal circumstances. A pharmacy
consists of individuals who specialize in medications, and
fill the prescription according to your dentists plan of treatment.
A dental lab works
in much the same way as a pharmacy, however there is little
interaction directly between the lab and you, the patient.
After consulting with your dentist, he or she will decide
what treatment is best suited to your individual circumstances.
Perhaps you're in need of a crown, bridgework, or an oral
appliance. Most dentists then have these customized elements
produced at a dental lab, custom made for your dentists' prescription.
Dental labs also
make new strides in dental technology. Labs work with new
materials, improve designs, and advance the processes used
to make the various elements used in treatments such as crowns,
veneers, dentures, oral appliances and others. The lab will
then make these new products and improvements available to
dentists, who can incorporate them into their practice.
